New Year New Look

New Year, New Outlook: Setting Your Intentions For 2024

It’s the year 2024, and after the trials, tribulations, experiences and learning curves from 2023 – I am ready to take on this year! After some deep scrolling (this is one of my Out’s for 2024), and reflection here’s my take on the In’s & Out’s of home styling this year along with some tips on how to create a space that gears you up for the year ahead.

1.   Freshening Up Your Space
This year to me is all about “how can I constantly improve my environment to set myself up for success?”. One thing I really enjoyed in 2023 (like many of us) is the abundance of fresh flora – whether it be a weekly bouquet or a more committed house plant. From its obvious natural beauty to the underlying aromatherapy and wellness benefits – flora in any space acts as a natural mood enhancer and is sure to spike productivity & creativity. Not to mention the seasonal variety that makes an addition exciting all year round!

So, for me, 2024 Ins: Fresh Flora vs 2024 Outs: Fake Plants.

2. Embrace Maximalism

One thing I want to encourage myself more to do this year is experiment outside my comfort zone when it comes to styling. I will usually create a space or a handful of regular table settings that I keep in rotation and stick with that when the opportunities are endless. The In for 2024 is incorporating more materials and textures into my spaces. “Less is more” is out and “more is more” is in – embrace maximalism!

3. Don't Be Colour Shy
A major In for 2024 is not being shy with colour! Earthy tones are set to be trendy this year with muted tones of terracotta, sage green and warm neutrals which have always seemed to dominate colour palettes – I find they create a cosy and grounding atmosphere that never disappoints. However, why only add colour to the rooms in the house that are seen by others? Why not treat my bedroom sanctuary to some as well? Pops of green, yellow, and pink are my personal favourites which are said to bring in abundance, happiness and originality.

4.  Organisation Is Key

A small but mighty change I’m introducing this year is more consistent organisation throughout my pantry. I am so guilty of letting the pantry get messy after a hearty meal and, by the end of it when it’s time to clean up, the state of the pantry is the last thing I want to tackle. I decided the best way to overcome this is to invest in clear, airtight containers for storing dry goods like pastas, cereals and spices. Opting for the transparent ones makes it effortless for me to see what I have at a glance and keep my products fresher for longer allowing me to focus more on what I’m cooking and not the mess I’m about to create!

Finally, what is a productive year ahead without a little reflection? Acknowledging what I achieved last year to help shift it into what I want to achieve this year allows me to go into the year with clear goals and intentions in mind. Last year, I had already set up a designated space for mindfulness where I was able to sit down at the end of a busy week and relax with a good book and a cuppa. I noticed I was consciously practicing time for myself more frequently which is a new habit I want to continue into 2024.

In 2024, let your home be a testament to your journey, a haven of comfort, and a canvas for the exciting chapters yet to come. Embrace the mantra – "New Year, New Look" – and embark on a home transformation that mirrors the optimism and potential of the year ahead. Cheers to a stylish and refreshed living space in 2024!
